The exhibition honors the fusion of science and art in deepening ourconnection to soil. Hanart, a researcher based in Dakar, explores thistheme through her delicate watercolors, merging scientificunderstanding with an empathetic connection to the earth, a subjectprofoundly significant to her. Her collection, Terre(s): draws viewersinto the concept of earth as a planet, soil, land to cultivate, a place to call home, or sometimes, a place to leave behind.
Hanart’s work, composed of aquatic, vegetal, organic, and humanforms, invites us to connect with the earth’s raw beauty, complexity, and universal resonance. Each piece in Terre(s) prompts reflection on our connection to this shared ground, whether it be the land we stand on, the home we cherish, or the roots we leave and rediscover.

The installation’s design draws inspiration from Rudolf Arnheim’sVisual Thinking, a classic work in psychology that reveals how perception is at the heart of all thinking, bridging art and science alike.Arnheim argued that reasoning and perception are interconnected, making his insights valuable not only for art but also for scientificinquiry.

At the center of the installation is a representation of people, a reminderof our vital role within nature and our dual responsibility to protect and share knowledge. The centrality of this element reflects the idea thatwe, at the heart of nature, must ensure that no one is left behind. The string that weaves through the exhibit symbolizes the connections made through meetings, workshops, and collaborations, allowing scientistsand visitors to exchange ideas harmoniously, and fostering unity in the common goal of safeguarding the soil—an invaluable resource for humanity’s future.
